A forward-looking family business
Sunshine Grow is a forward-looking horticultural farm with nurseries in the Netherlands (Voorschoten) and Spain (between Alicante and Murcia). Jos van den Berg manages the company, while his father Bram van den Berg handles the cultivation in Spain.
History
The company’s history dates back to 1958 when Bram van den Berg founded a vegetable-growing farm in Leidschendam, the Netherlands. In the autumn, he cultivated poinsettias and later entirely switched over to pot plants. In 1981, the company moved to its current location (1.5 hectares under glass) in the Dutch town of Voorschoten. A year later, Jos joined the company. In 1992, Bram moved to Spain. The potted plant nursery he set up has grown into a modern, automated business of 6 hectares (outdoors).
From cutting to deliverable plant
All Sunshine Grow plants originate from our stock plants, which guarantee cutting material of the best quality. All cutting material is rooted in the Voorschoten nursery. The rooted nerium oleander cuttings are then transported to the nursery in Spain, while the cuttings of the hibiscus and croton are cultivated in Voorschoten.
The cultivation takes place in a sustainable manner (MPS-A) and using biological pest control. The excess irrigation water is re-used at both companies, even though it is not obligatory in Spain. Obtaining MPS-GAP is currently being worked on in order to meet the requirements of the European retail sector.
Quick, reliable and flexible
Sunshine Grow is a reliable business partner who can fulfil the wishes of buyers both flexibly and quickly. Thanks to the short lines of communication between both nurseries in the Netherlands and Spain, large quantities can be delivered quickly. The location between Aalsmeer, Naaldwijk and Bleiswijk offers buyers the certainty of guaranteed quick deliveries.
Uniform quality
An automatic camera-based sorting system has been installed at Sunshine Grow’s two nurseries. Both companies work according to the same strict, internal quality standards, so that they can deliver according to the requirements of the trade and retail sector. |
